SwabSURE Listeria is a direct screening test designed for the presumptive detection of Listeria spp., including Listeria monocytogenes, from food contact surfaces and manufacturing environments where regular sanitisation is performed.
The test provides clear visual results via a built-in color change system, simplifying interpretation.
Each kit includes a 45mm breakpoint swab with a foam tip pre-moistened in TSC Neutralising Buffer for efficient sample transfer. The system is ISO 18593:2018 compliant when used with a sampling template (e.g., TS/15-T40).
Targeted Detection:
Listeria monocytogenes
Listeria ivanovii
Other Listeria spp.
Differentiates from non-pathogenic Listeria such as L. innocua
Inhibition of Background Flora:
Suppresses common background organisms including:
Bacillus spp.
Enterococcus spp.
Micrococcus spp.
Gram-negative species like Klebsiella spp. and E. coli
Recommended Use:
Routine environmental and food contact surface monitoring
GMP-compliant surface testing
HACCP-aligned pathogen control programs
Suitable for use alongside ISO 11290-1 methodology
Limitations & Considerations:
Screening only – all presumptive positives must be confirmed using standard or molecular bacteriological techniques.
Not for direct food contact – discard after use.
Not validated for uncleaned surfaces – may cause false positives or unclear results.
A negative result does not guarantee absence – possible causes include:
Low organism load
Ineffective neutralisation of sanitiser
Damaged cells unable to recover
Incubation at 25°C is recommended – reduces false positives, especially in high-contamination zones like drains or complex equipment. For more specific detection, see alternative chromogenic product SS-L01.
Shelf Life: 12 months (do not use after expiry date printed on the label)
Storage Conditions:
Kit: 2–8°C
Pre-moistened swabs: 4–25°C
Sterilisation Method:
Detection media: Autoclaved
Swab: Gamma irradiated (terminally sterilised)
