Microbiology Equipment
Ocon Chemicals offers a complete range of microbiology equipment for laboratory, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications. Our portfolio includes culture media, microbial monitoring and testing solutions, sample preparation tools, and sterility and quality control products.
Designed to support accurate microbial detection, identification, and control, our microbiology range helps laboratories meet regulatory and research standards with confidence. We source from trusted manufacturers, provide batch documentation on request, and deliver nationwide from our Irish warehouse with temperature-controlled options where required.
Safety Reminder
Always follow your site risk assessments and SDS guidance when preparing media or handling cultures. Use appropriate PPE, segregate disinfectants and flammables, and store temperature-sensitive items strictly within labelled ranges.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you stock ready-to-use culture media as well as dehydrated media?
Yes. You can order pre-poured plates, broths and tubes for convenience, or dehydrated media for in-house preparation. Where applicable, products follow recognised methods and come with batch details for your records.
Can I get certificates of analysis (CoA) and lot traceability?
Absolutely. For most media and reagents, we can supply CoAs, lot numbers and expiry dates. If you need documentation attached to the shipment or emailed to QA, let us know at checkout.
Do your products support ISO 11133 media quality requirements?
Where relevant, products are selected to help you meet ISO 11133 requirements for preparation and performance testing of culture media. Always follow your internal validation and quality procedures before use.
Are items suitable for EU GMP environments?
Many products are widely used in GMP/GLP facilities. Check the specification sheet for sterility status, irradiation, bioburden controls and packaging. If you need assistance aligning to Annex 1 expectations for environmental monitoring, our team can help.
What sizes of Petri dishes and contact plates are available?
Standard 90 mm and 55 mm Petri dishes are available, along with 55 mm contact plates for surface monitoring. We also supply specialised formats. Please share your protocol so we can match the exact plate type.
Do you offer microbial air monitoring solutions?
Yes. We supply media plates and accessories compatible with common active air samplers. If you use MAS-100 instruments, we also provide on-site calibration services to keep flow rates within specification.
Can you advise on selective versus differential media?
We can recommend suitable selective or differential formulations based on target organisms (e.g., coliforms, yeasts/moulds, Staphylococcus). Share your method or standard and we’ll suggest matched media and controls.
How should chilled or temperature-sensitive items be shipped and stored?
Temperature-controlled shipping is available for products requiring refrigeration. On receipt, store according to the label/SDS (e.g., 2–8 °C) and do not freeze unless specified. We include clear storage guidance on documents.
What is the typical shelf life of ready-poured plates?
Shelf life varies by formulation and storage conditions. Many plates carry several weeks to a few months’ dating from manufacture. We will confirm current dating before dispatch so you can plan usage.
Do you supply sterility controls and positive controls?
Yes, sterility indicators, neutralisers (e.g., lecithin/Tween for disinfectant residues) and selected control organisms or reference materials (subject to availability and end-use). Ask us for options aligned to your SOPs.
Are Safety Data Sheets (SDS) available?
SDS are available for hazardous reagents and dehydrated media components. For non-hazardous items, product data sheets are supplied. Contact our team if you need documents pre-approved by EHS.
Can I order in bulk or set up standing orders?
Certainly. We can schedule recurring deliveries, hold buffer stock, or implement Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) to stabilise supply and minimise expiries – ideal for multi-site labs and routine testing programmes.
What is your delivery coverage and lead time in Ireland?
We deliver nationwide. In-stock lines typically ship promptly from our Cork facility; lead times for non-stock items depend on the manufacturer. We’ll confirm dates at quotation and advise substitutes if needed.
Do you accept returns on microbiology products?
Unopened ambient items may be returnable subject to inspection and timelines. Due to stability requirements, cold-chain and sterile goods are generally non-returnable. We’ll guide you case-by-case.
Can you help with waste and disposal of expired media?
Yes. Our compliant waste service can collect expired plates, broths and reagents with full traceability. Ask about safe segregation and packaging before collection.
Do you offer training or product selection support?
We’re happy to brief your team on media selection, plate handling, environmental monitoring best practice, and documentation. Share your method, organism targets and facility type, and we’ll propose a shortlist.
